ROCKY MOUNT, NC – Nash County in North Carolina has been given more than $1 million by Sanderson Farms to compensate it for costs it endured in trying to assist the processor in its attempts to build a chicken-processing plant in the county, according to The Associated Press. This reimbursement accompanied a letter from Bob Billingsley, the processor’s director of development and engineering.
In November, Sanderson Farms officials said they had decided against opening a large-scale, chicken-processing plant in Nash County on NC 97 just north of the Wilson County line, citing legal challenges that could delay the project. Robbie Davis, County Commissioner, presented the letter during a county commissioners' retreat on Jan. 18 at the Golden LEAF Foundation's retreat center in Rocky Mount.
