The boards of USPOULTRY and the USPOULTRY Foundation launched the program through the Board Research Initiative, which will operate concurrently with the current research program. Salmonella infection in chickens will be the first area of focus. Research will explore the relationship of systemic Salmonella infection in poultry with Salmonella contamination of ground poultry products. The second research topic is aimed at advancing animal well-being in the poultry industry.
“Our Association recognized the need to fund research that is timely and addresses specific needs for the industry. The Board Research Initiative program fulfills this need,” said John Starkey, USPOULTRY president.
