The Fresh From Florida program is part of the Florida Agricultural Promotional Campaign (FAPC). Membership is open to small and large producers. The hallmark of the program is the Fresh From Florida logo, which FAPC members can use on products and signs promoting their products. Additional benefits include reduced admission costs to trade shows; point of purchase materials, tie-ins to supermarket promotions that feature Florida products and print and store circular advertising.
State officials must define Florida beef before the Fresh From Florida label can be applied to beef products, according to the AP report. The Florida Beef Council notes that the majority of the cattle raised in Florida are shipped out of state as feeder cattle. State officials must answer the question: Does the cow have to spend its entire life in Florida in order to qualify as Florida beef?
To address the issue, Florida ranchers have invested in facilities that will allow them to breed, raise, finish and slaughter cows in Florida, according to AP.
