Products subject to the recall include:
• 10-lb. cardboard boxes, containing four individual Cryovac sealed packages of May’s Hawaii “Hawaiian Style, Boneless and Skinless Teriyaki Chicken Thighs.”
• 5-lb. cardboard boxes, containing two individual Cryovac sealed packages of May’s Hawaii “Hawaiian Style, Boneless and Skinless Teriyaki Chicken Thighs.”
• 2-lb. cardboard boxes, containing one Cryovac sealed package of May’s Hawaii “Hawaiian Style, Boneless and Skinless Teriyaki Chicken Thighs.”
The chicken was produced on various dates between Sept. 24 and Nov. 6 and later was distributed for retail sale on Oahu, Maui, Kauai and Hawaii, and to a nearby military commissary. The packages bear the establishment number “P-11077” in the USDA mark of inspection on the package.
FSIS found bloated boxes of the chicken products at retail location. The Kapolei, Hawaii-based firm's distributor initially discovered the problem during shipment. Boxes of product were swollen with gases from the bagged chicken, an indication the product may have experienced temperature abuse during storage before distribution, according to FSIS. There have been no reports of illness or adverse reactions due to consumption of the products.
