Romanian company buys Cargill’s animal nutrition unit
BUCHAREST, ROMANIA — Romanian agri-food business Carmistin The Food Company is acquiring Cargill’s animal nutrition group in Romania, subject to regulatory approval. Financial details were not disclosed.
In its March 5 announcement, Carmistin said the deal comprises the full Provimi Romania legal entity, which includes two fodder production units located in Craiova and Sibiu counties. The plants have about 100 employees who will transition to Carmistin.
“By taking over Cargill’s animal nutrition operations, we aim to improve our production performance and capitalize on the experience and extraordinary potential of the Cargill team that will join us, to continue supporting Romanian farmers with the best quality animal nutrition solutions,” said Cristina Popa, deputy general manager of Carmistin. “Until the legal transfer procedures are completed, we want to firmly assure all employees, customers and partners that activities and good collaborative relationships will not be disrupted or affected in any way.”
Carmistin Group — which has operations at over 40 companies in poultry meat and eggs, pork and cattle farming, and cereal production — said the acquisition will increase its feed production to meet the needs of its own farms. The group owns profile factories in Vâlcea and Olt counties.
