Bacon
The Bacon Sluggerrr was a hit with fans at Kauffman Stadium over the weekend.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - To commemorate International Bacon Day on Sept. 3, MEAT+POULTRY editors joined thousands of bacon lovers at Kauffman Stadium in Kansas City, Missouri, home of the Kansas City Royals, for “Bacon Day at the K,” sponsored by Farmland Foods Inc.

Farmland representatives handed out bacon novelty items as well as samples of bacon from several tents situated around the stadium.

However, the big attraction was the 150-lb., life-size bacon bust of Sluggerrr, the Royals mascot.

Food artists Jim Victor and his wife Marie Pelton constructed the bacon sculpture with approximately 2,000 strips of cooked bacon using their microwave oven and toothpicks to piece together this pork of art. The masterpiece was shipped overnight from their studio in Philadelphia to Kansas City.

In this podcast, Victor and Pelton discuss the painstaking process of creating the bacon bust and why this type of work has become a passion for both of them.
