A family owned company launched on the selling strength of a bacon cooker is doing battle against counterfeiters, according to a forbes.com report.
Abby Fleck, along with her father, Jon invented the Makin Bacon microwave-safe bacon cooker in 1993 after running out of paper towels to absorb the grease from bacon cooked in their microwave. In late 1994, the Flecks reached an agreement with Wal-Mart Stores Inc. to sell their bacon cookers, and then on Amazon through a third-party seller.
Customer satisfaction ratings on Amazon were high for Makin Bacon until last fall, when the ratings began to slip. By Christmas, sales began to plunge. According to the Flecks and their lawyer, Chinese counterfeiters are to blame.
