JACKSON COUNTY, Ind. — JBS USA immediately banned Indiana-based East Fork Farms from its supply chain indefinitely following a video showing pig abuse.
People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) released the video it received from an anonymous source showing the abuse. The Indiana farm supplied pork to a JBS Louisville slaughterhouse under the Swift Premium and La Herencia brands of the company.
JBS explained that it did a comprehensive review of the undercover video and consulted with internal and external animal welfare experts.
“While we have not directly purchased pigs from this farm, we will not accept any risk that animals from this farm could be a part of our supply chain,” JBS said in a statement. “We are taking immediate steps to audit our supply chain and ensure compliance with this prohibition. Animal welfare is an absolute priority for our company and our customers.”
