OAKWOOD, GA. – Wayne Farms LLC confirmed that workers at two Alabama facilities tested positive for the coronavirus (COVID-19) on April 6.
Frank Singleton, spokesman with Wayne Farms, said in a statement that one employee at its Dothan, Ala., poultry processing plant tested positive and “several” employees at the Enterprise, Ala., processing facility tested positive.
“The employees are self-quarantined and will not return to work until they are disease free and fully recovered,” Singleton said. “We are working directly with public health and our plant occupational health teams to monitor the situation, including employee temperature monitoring via infrared thermometer at entrances, and watching for signs of flu-like illness or other indicators.”
Singleton said the company is emphasizing the use of personal protective equipment (PPE), frequent handwashing, social distancing and other precautions as directed by public health officials and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
“We have an established protocol that we have been following since Feb. 24,” Singleton said. “As this is an evolving situation, we anticipate Wayne Farms, like other businesses, will continue to deal with this.”
