SPRINGDALE, ARK. – Officials from Tyson Foods Inc. confirmed the company is expanding production at its sandwich processing facility in Amherst, Ohio, after investing approximately $20 million in the past year to accommodate the additional volume. The plant was formerly owned and operated by AdvancePierre Foods Holdings Inc., prior to Tyson acquiring the company in 2017 for approximately $4.2 billion. Expanding production at the facility is expected to add about 200 jobs.
“We are very excited to grow in Amherst,” said Brandy Shaw, plant manager. “We already employ 525 people in the facility and are looking forward to adding more team members to our Tyson family. We take great pride in being a positive member of this community.”
As one of the largest employers in the Amherst area, the city’s mayor, Mark Costilow, lauded the decision by Tyson to invest additional resources in the region.
“Tyson Foods continues to add value to our community,” Costilow said. “We are excited the company is bringing more job opportunities to our residents and those in surrounding communities. Tyson Foods is a vital part of Amherst, and we will continue to support its growth.”
The company said the expansion and additional jobs are in response to growth in demand for Tyson’s protein products, specifically its Jimmy Dean brand.
