MAUSTON, WIS. - Wisconsin River Meats confirmed in various Facebook posts that a part of its processing facility was destroyed by a fire on Feb. 2.
“We thank Mauston and surrounding area Fire Departments for their response,” the company said in a post. “The old portion of the plant is a total loss. We humbly ask that you be patient and please give us some time to sort out the cause of the fire and for us to transition some of our business and invoicing to our warehouse.”
Wisconsin River officials said there were no injuries, and all animals were able to be removed from the plant. The company is still looking to see what it can recover from its office area.
According to its website on Feb. 3, Wisconsin River Meats hopes to be up and running in the next month or so.
The company’s website said its plant is more than 8,500 square feet with 20 full-time employees and up to 35 seasonal workers.
