BEND, ORE. — Next Level Burger, billed as “America’s first 100% plant-based burger joint,” has raised $20 million to support national expansion.
Serving vegan takes on classic diner fare, Next Level Burger operates restaurants in Oregon, Washington, California, Colorado, Texas and New York, plus locations inside select Whole Foods Market stores. The company aims to quadruple its current store count by the end of 2025, with a long-term goal of opening 1,000 units across the country. Menu items range from burgers to shakes to loaded french fries.
“Since our founding in 2014, our company mission has been focused on a triple-bottom-line philosophy of doing good, having fun and making money,” said Matthew de Gruyter, chief executive officer and co-founder of Next Level Burger. “Now more than ever, the fight against climate change and for sustainability drives us and our awesome team of mission-oriented stakeholders.”
Lead investors in the funding round are a “strategic organic and natural foods partner” and private high-net-worth individuals, including Alex Payne, formerly of Twitter and Simple Bank, and Nicole Brodeur as minority stakeholders.
