WASHINGTON — The US Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service issued a public health alert for Manteca, Calif.-based SunnyValley Smoked Meats’ ready-to-eat ham on Oct. 6. The Kirkland Signature Applewood Smoked Ham was suspected to be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes.
The following RTE ham, which was produced on Sept. 25, is subject to the health alert:
- 4-lb. (average weight) vacuum-packed clear plastic packages containing “Kirkland Signature Applewood Smoked MASTER CARVE HALF HAM Boneless With Natural Juices” with Use / Freeze by date Jan 20 24 and a sticker with lot number 264 - 4.
The products bear the establishment number “EST. 17823” inside the USDA mark of inspection and were shipped to retail locations in California and Nevada.
FSIS discovered the problem after SunnyValley notified the agency that the product tested positive for Listeria.
The agency did not issue a recall because the products are believed to no longer be for sale.
There have been no confirmed reports of adverse reactions due to consumption of the ham product.
