OKLAHOMA CITY, OKLA. — The American Meat Science Association (AMSA) is preparing to host the 77th Reciprocal Meat Conference at the Omni Oklahoma City Conference Center in Oklahoma City, Okla., June 16-19, 2024. Each year, meat industry professionals, meat scientists, thought leaders and students come together for the event that is focused on educating, learning and sharing knowledge to advance the opportunities and achievements of meat science professionals.
Some of the highlights of the event include pre-conference competitions held on June 15, such as the Iron Chef Product Development Contest from 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. and the Processed Meat Judging Contest at 3:45 p.m., both of which will be held at the Francis Tuttle Technology Center Institute. Also, on June 15 at the same location, will be the USDA Poultry and Shell Egg Grading Educational Demonstration for students (2:30-3:30 p.m.) and for educators (4:15-5:15 p.m.). Sunday, June 16, events held at the Omni include the RMC Student Quiz Competition, the AMSA Student Research ePoster Competition, a silent auction, the Meat Coaches Association Meeting and the Multistate Hatch Meeting. In the evening, festivities include the RMC Welcome Reception, held at the National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum from 6-9:30 p.m., which will include award presentations to winners of the ePoster and Student Quiz competitions.
Some of the highlights of the events on Monday, June 17, include an opening session at 8 a.m., followed by a keynote presentation by Rob Sharkey, an Illinois grain farmer, also known as the SharkFarmer, who will address the challenges and successes of today’s farmers. The RMC Supplier Showcase will be held from 9:15 a.m. to 5 p.m., while concurrent educational sessions will be held from 10 a.m. to noon. A networking lunch will follow from 12:15-1:15 p.m., followed by Reciprocation Sessions and Tech Talks from 1:30-4:30 p.m. Social events in the evening will include the Women’s Meat Industry Network (WMIN) Reception at the Omni from 5:15-6:15; and then, at Scissortail Park will be the RMC Family Picnic, a kickball tournament and a student mixer/movie in the park.
Festivities on Tuesday, June 18, start off with an 8 a.m. opening session followed by a keynote speech from personal branding specialist Paul Davis. Networking opportunities, Reciprocation Sessions and Tech Talks will be on the agenda for the rest of the morning and afternoon, which will include a networking lunch at 11:50 a.m., followed by concurrent educational sessions from 1:15-3:15 p.m. The evening will be highlighted by the RMC Reception and Banquet, beginning at 6 p.m.
The final day will include a 6 a.m. fun run at Scissortail Park, followed by the final general session at 8 a.m. and a keynote presentation from Michele Payn, titled “Celebrating Science,” which begins at 8:30 a.m. The rest of the conference includes a variety of four different workshops that are begin at 9:30 a.m., with the final one ending the conference at 2:30 p.m.
