GAINESVILLE, GA. — The Georgia Poultry Federation (GAPF) confirmed this week that industry veteran Abit Massey died at 96 on June 14.
Massey joined the federation in 1960 and saw remarkable changes over the six decades working for the poultry industry in Georgia. Following his retirement, he served as GAPF’s president emeritus.
“We have been overwhelmed and comforted by the outpouring of love and condolences from his many friends in the industry and beyond,” said Mike Giles, president of the Georgia Poultry Federation.
Massey graduated from the University of Georgia (UGA) with a business degree in 1949. He earned a law degree from Emory University in 1955.
In 2023, UGA’s College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences published an article detailing Massey’s contributions to the State of Georgia and the poultry industry.
