BIRMINGHAM, UK — Boparan Holdings Limited (BHL) confirmed on Sept. 2 that it would be selling its European poultry business, 2 Sisters Storteboom, to Boparan Private Office (BPO). Both entities are owned by Ranjit Singh Boparan, the founder of 2 Sisters Food Group. Boparan is also known as the “Chicken King” of Great Britain.
In a news release, the deal was reported as being in excess of 200 million euros ($221 million).
The poultry company 2 Sisters Storteboom supplies chicken products on the continent, with six processing sites in the Netherlands and three others in Poland.
“Both BHL and the BPO will benefit as it creates a stronger, more agile group of businesses and provides a platform for an unprecedented level of internal investment,” the company said.
Under the BPO, the company explained that the European poultry business will be able to “have a dedicated regional focus on its European markets, unlocking undoubted growth opportunities through a focus on quality, animal welfare and sustainability.”
A 2 Sisters Good Group statement also noted that the move strengthens BHL’s balance sheet and enables it to reduce debt levels to the lowest point in over a decade.
The 2 Sisters Storteboom business employs roughly 2,700 workers across the processing sites.
