HAMMOND, LA. — Due to a hurricane, flooding and tropical storm warnings, Wayne-Sanderson Farms announced in a Facebook post that it would not operate during the first and second shifts on Sept. 11 at its Hammond, La., plant.

“Please stay safe and tuned to your local news stations for further weather-related updates,” Wayne-Sanderson said.

According to the National Weather Service, Hurricane Francine is expected to make landfall along the coast of Louisiana late on Sept. 11 as it moves in a general northeastward direction, paralleling the Texas Gulf Coast. Hurricane and tropical storm warnings remain active across Southeast Louisiana and Southern Mississippi. Heavy rainfall along and to the east of the track will potentially lead to flooding, noted the National Weather Service.

When questioned if additional Wayne-Sanderson facilities — particularly those in Mississippi — would be pausing operations, the poultry processor responded that they are operating as normally scheduled for now. Should any operations updates be announced, Wayne-Sanderson plans to post them to its social media accounts.
