DODGE CITY, Kan. – Two Cargill employees suffered burns after an explosion at its protein facility in Dodge City, Kansas, on Oct. 17.
Following the incident, the company suspended some operations for the remainder of the day out of precaution, while fabrication shifts remained on schedule.
“Two employees are receiving medical treatment for burns and we are investigating the cause of the accident,” Cargill spokesman Daniel Sullivan said. “We are grateful for the partnership of the local emergency medical response team. Our focus is on the safety of our employees and getting the best care for our colleagues.”
The plant employs 2,700 people with a slaughter capacity of 5,800 head per day.
