SHANGHAI – On April 30, Cargill Inc. announced the launch of a line of plant-based products for the Chinese market. The launch features the consumer-facing brand, PlantEver, expected to be available online and offline by the end of June this year, as well as new plant-based foodservice products.
The PlantEver brand and its products came after Cargill and KFC partnered on a deal to facilitate the QSR chain to start offering plant-based nuggets. KFC held a product trial to test the product in three stores in three tier-1 cities – Shanghai, Shenzhen and Guangzhou – for three days from April 28 to April 30. The nuggets sold out quickly during the trial.
“Our plant-based protein products were developed through extensive consumer engagement and research,” said Jackson Chan, managing director of Cargill Protein, China. “We combine our knowledge and expertise in R&D and innovation to create some of the best-tasting products in the plant-based category. The launch is just the beginning, we look forward to continuing to innovate. Our customers in China can count on a partner with the supply chain, scale and formulation capabilities to deliver the solutions they need.”
Cargill’s plant-based nuggets are part of the company’s approach to the future of protein. The launch in China is a step in bringing more protein options to Chinese consumers.
